Through a combination of diversion, engagement, education and enforcement the South Wigston Neighbourhood Team has continued to tackle youth and vehicle-related ASB. Our work includes the use of an incremental approach to ASB, the seizure of illegal motorcycles, e-bikes and scooters used to facilitate ASB, use of out-of-court resolutions, dedicated local and force-wide operations, youth engagement and diversionary activities, and where necessary, arrests and prosecutions.
As a result, we have seen a significant reduction in reported incidents: ✅ January to September 2025 ✅ January to September 2026
While these results are encouraging, we know that there is still more work to do. We continue to receive reports of individuals using electric motorcycles and other vehicles irresponsibly, often while concealing their identity and putting members of the public at risk. Tackling this behaviour remains a priority for us.
🗣️ A Message to Parents, Carers and Guardians If your child is using an illegal electric bike, motorcycle or scooter, please be aware that these vehicles will be seized and destroyed. In some circumstances, those who have purchased or allowed the use of illegal vehicles will face prosecution. We encourage parents and carers to understand the laws surrounding electric bikes and motorcycles and stop your children obtaining or using them. Also, If your child owns or regularly wears a balaclava – ask yourself why. Many are involved in criminality and you may not even know.
Working Together This is not an issue unique to South Wigston, Oadby and Wigston, or even Leicestershire. It is a challenge faced by communities across the country, and police forces nationwide are working hard to tackle it. Safely stopping offenders who have little regard for their own safety or the safety of others can be challenging and carries significant risks. As a result, we often utilise intelligence-led policing to identify offenders and take appropriate action after the event. We would like to thank you for your continued support and patience. Your reports and information help us identify offenders, target our activity and keep our neighbourhoods safe.
